London Assembly and European Elections 10 June 2004
Super Thursday Election Brief
The Green Party achieved 5.94% of the first past the post vote in the constituency as a whole. We also saved our deposit. The full electoral results per ward have now been obtained by our London agent and make for interesting analysis. On the top-up PR ballot, Jenny Jones and Darren Johnson were re-elected as London-wide Assembly members. The European Results, available for Brent and Harrow as distinct boroughs, were 7.24% and 5.56% (PR). Jean Lambert was re-elected for the London Region by an increased margin.

Electoral Commission): It's also true that in five out of seven Brent East wards all Green Party candidates beat all Lib Dem candidates at the last set of local elections in 2002. At the next general election we shall be contesting Brent East. For just one brief analysis of the results see on the national website. Our recent election communication for the Brent East By-Election of September 2003 should give the elector a good sense of the breadth of our policies and character of our thinking. |

Although none of the 14 Green Party constituency candidates were elected, the 11.1% gained across London in the top-up party list vote was sufficient to elect Darren, Victor and Jenny to the new 25 seat London Assembly. European
Parliament elections 10 June 1999
The European elections were held under proportional representation for the first time in the UK last year. Despite having fewer votes nationwide than in the 1989 election, two greens were elected to the European Parliament: Jean Lambert form the London Region and Caroline Lucas form the South East region. In London, the relatively modest vote of 7.67 % gained us the last of the 10 seats allocated, partly because smaller parties split the vote. As can be seen from the table below, only in Brent East was the Green vote higher than the London average. This may reflect the fact that there was relatively more Green Party activity in the area. This suggests that there are 'easy' gains to be made across the Brent and Harrow constituencies and that the Green vote could be a lot higher. |

Kilburn by-election
11 March 1999
Candidate Rob Whitley polled 7.6 % of votes cast, putting us in third place, behind Labour and Conservatives. Large parts of the ward were leafleted and canvassed - the response was generally very good. Unfortunately Labour supporters were also out in force and they achieved a large majority. Votes: Labour 778, Conservative 292, Green 92, Liberal Democrat 47 |
